Liu’s Cafe: Reviews & Ratings
We waited around 30 minutes to get seated. Sadly, we couldn’t try the beef soup noodles since they’re only available after 4 PM, which was disappointing because that was the main reason we came. However, the HK style French toast totally made up for it crispy, rich, and delicious (10/10). The HK milk tea wasn’t overly sweet, and the braised pork belly was flavorful and well done. Overall, still enjoyed the food we tried!
Worth the hype! I visited Liu's Cafe on Black Friday and was blown away. The HK Style French Toast is hands-down one of the best things I've eaten recently—imagine the texture of a Chinese donut mixed with French toast. The Braised Pork Belly Rice and Chiayi Chicken Rice were also excellent and packed with flavor. Heads up: Items are on the pricier side, but the quality justifies it. The French Toast is dine-in only (not available on the to-go menu), so plan to grab a table. Check their hours before driving over as they can have specific holiday closures. Highly recommend if you're in K-Town!
Delicious and comforting, yet fresh flavors with depth. Very reasonable prices. All of the staff were very welcoming, prompt, and helpful. We wish we were hungrier to try everything on the menu, but we tried the spicy wontons, braised pork, milk tea and iced tea and will be craving them for the foreseeable future.
Great concept, love how the restaurant flows. Put your name in, wait for a bit and then place your order at the counter and then sit communal style and enjoy a delicious meal. For me, the flavors were outstanding, Braised Pork Belly, Sesame Cold Noodles ( my fav) and the French Toast was yummy. Small menu keeps things simple, super tasty, very quick service and a great atmosphere. Loves it!!
Lius Cafe is exceptional and after eating here, it is easy to see why it received Michelin recognition for 2025. Every dish was executed at an incredibly high level. The Hong Kong French toast was easily the best I have ever had. Perfectly fried with a crisp golden exterior and an unbelievably soft interior, the lava custard filling was rich and indulgent without being heavy. Finished with butter, malda salt, brown sugar syrup, it was pure comfort and luxury in one bite. The spicy wontons were just as impressive, coated in a bold sauce that balanced soy, spice, and sweetness so perfectly that every bite exploded with flavor. The sesame cold noodle soup was outstanding, with soft chewy noodles, crunchy peanuts, tender shredded chicken, and a deeply nutty sesame sauce that tied everything together beautifully. The braised pork belly rice was superb and genuinely the best pork belly rice dish I have ever had, with meat that was rich, flavorful, and melt in your mouth tender. To finish, the hot Hong Kong milk tea was strong, aromatic, and perfectly sweet, flawless from start to finish. I came on a Thursday around 12:30 pm and was seated immediately, and even managed to find street parking nearby. Lius Cafe truly lives up to its reputation and Michelin recognition, and I will absolutely be returning.
It was a stormy Thursday morning. My partner and I were leaving LA, but we had to make one more good food stop and I am so glad we chose Liu’s Cafe. This Michelin bib gourmand restaurant offers Taiwanese classics at a great value. We ordered the following: spicy wontons, beef noodle soup, hot hong kong milk tea, and hong kong style french toast. Every dish was amazing but a real stand out was the french toast. So crispy and rich it was absolutely delicious. This was potentially my favorite restaurant of the whole trip as it balanced everything perfectly. From flavors, to service, to the vibes everything was working well in this restaurant.
BEST Taiwanese meal I’ve ever had. Lovely brothy rice dish with mild but flavorful taste, unlike the usual American overwhelming sensation. Amazing texture for the noodles as well as the tasty soup. Love the spicy dumplings. None of the menu I had were bad, all of them were in fact delicious which makes my next visit here very difficult to choose. Place gets packed rather quickly, and seating is limited. Staff are friendly and more than willing to help. Gets noisy as well.
Finally making my way here, after giving up multiple times looking at the long waiting line. We arrived tad early at 11-ish, told that the wait might take 30mins, but it ended up being less than half of it. BIG YEAY! The venue was most accommodating for small parties and parking was tough. Once placing order, they got it ready super swift nonetheless. Getting their Pork Rice and HK French Toast, it felt like they successfully scored for each savory and sweet. The pork was well seasoned and flavorful, perfectly complemented by warm bowl of rice. The french toast, OMG! Crispy coating and so fluffy center, stuffed with melted custard. Nothing more to say, but SO SO ADDICTIVE! Not to forget, enjoying HK meals seemed illegal to skip the milk tea.
